The Empty Nest

 Day-8 NAPOWRIMO-2021

Prompt: A monologue.

                                                                   image:my home.

I remember that day clearly

The last day of your life

You woke up early,

Asked me to make some black tea

I got busy preparing for exams

You got busy reading a newspaper

And then the clocked chimed

We got ready to face the routine life

You went your way to work

I went to crack the examination board

I never imagined in my wildest dream

It is going to be the last day together

The contours of your swarthy face

Still make my heart ache

The death of the prime minister

Took a piece of your existence

How thin and fragile you looked

After two months of life threatening break

Hope beamed and you stood tall

You said " Everything is going to be fine"

I believed in your wise words

You couldn't have thought then

Your words  would echo in the empty air

Within a few hours after you uttered them

What I least expected happened

Death snatched you away without any call

A heart bleed with deep sadness

No words could express the ache you left

There were chaos all around

The hungry mouths cried without  a sound

Silence greeted them every day and night

They waited eagerly  for your footsteps

To bring a smile on their faces

Don't you think it was too selfish!

To leave a bunch of teenagers

Stranded and fend for themselves...

The Magical Brush

 Day-6 NAPOWRIMO-2021

This pic is forwarded by my daughter. My poem is about this image.

                                                                        image:sneha

Who is the magician
Who has painted the skies
With breathing heartbeats?

The dawn and dusk
Ooze shades of life.

Where does the charm
Come from riding on bright beams
With chiseled dreams?

Hope is translating
Destinies of many,

The tiny speck
Shrouded in sepia canopy
Speaks of many possibilities

I am left speechless
As the magic weaves around me...

Legacy

Day-5 NAPOWRIMO-2021

I am a huge fan of Nayyirah Waheed. Her poems speak to me at different levels. I have taken one of her poems " Birthmarks" to complete this challenge.

                                                                  image; sneha

I am a shadow

Inverted in spaces

Along the seasons  across waters.

Trudging-

Breathing in hiccups.

May I sin

Many folds and many times.

Merging in the milieu .

Nobody has power over me

Until my heart says so

Tow shall I

obscure lines

allowing

grief and joy to be my own.

Prompt: This prompt challenges you to find a poem, and then write a new poem that has the shape of the original, and in which every line starts with the first letter of the corresponding line in the original poem. If I used Roethke’s poem as my model, for example, the first line would start with “I,” the second line with “W,” and the third line with “A.” And I would try to make all my lines neither super-short nor overlong, but have about ten syllables. I would also have my poem take the form of four, seven-line stanzas. I have found this prompt particularly inspiring when I use a base poem that mixes long and short lines, or stanzas of different lengths. Any poem will do as a jumping-off point, but if you’re having trouble finding one, perhaps you might consider Mary Szybist’s “We Think We Do Not Have Medieval Eyes” or for something shorter, Natalie Shapero’s “Pennsylvania.”

Romancing Death

 Day-4 NAPOWRIMO-2021

Prompt: Take an image from a source and write a poem.

Source : https://twitter.com/SpaceLiminalBot

                                                                        @SpaceLiminalBot,

For a year,

The world has turned upside down,

Cloistered in boundaries unshaped

Whirlwind of emotions suck in.

There were days when

The tunnel engulfed

In a claustrophobic  existence,

The walls cast fearful shadows while

The cycle of day and night went on.

This period has taught many lessons

It has awaken a deep sense of understanding

Family matters, kindness and acceptance too

The most important lesson, when life is at stake,

One can survive even with limited resources too.

Nature has been a great teacher

It  has made man realize

That life is precious

But, the fear, will I see tomorrow, continues,,,

Some Roads Mend the Heart

 Day-2 NAPOWRIMO-2021

Prompt reference: Robert Frost's poem " The Road Not Taken".

Prompt : The choices which made a difference.

                                                                        image: sneha

If freedom had a voice then,
There would be no regrets
For choosing life
With a pinch of salt.

The road taken
In youthful flush
Was not smooth
There were many thorns
Which left marks
On an aching heart.

As time moved on its heels
Many roads converged
With multiple scars
Reminders of a past
Smeared in sadness, and
A black hole of loneliness
A crisscross between
Life and death.

But, the hardships
Did add strength
Revolutionizing  the senses
With multiple hues
The course of belief changed
And made the road
Welcoming with
Fragrant and hopeful blooms.

Shredded and shattered

She waits for the storm

As the hunger

Logged deep inside her

Explodes, and her

Geography of pain

Moans in silence.

Premotions

                                                                                artbysunita

Today, she hit the rock bottom

Worrying and dreading

Of unknown things

Again her body gave away

How invalid she feels!

She cannot make any sense

Of this senseless phase

A phase of displeased

Or is it displacement?

Sort of here and there

An oscillating shadow

She is trying to catch hold of

Every nerve in the body

Is going haywire

And speaks its own langauge.

Lazyness

                                                                                 artbysunita

There is a lull in the air

The day dragged on and on

A slight breeze of lethargy

Creeped lethally

And made her day boring

She couldn't fathom

What to do or what not

Her bones made funny noises

As if knocking   for a release

From the fortress

She has built herself.

It is almost nine months

That she has caged herself

In that unknown fortress.

Drained

Today, she is back to her old self

Bedridden and lost

Her body again started

Acting weird

Dark shadows dance

Infront of her eyes

And she finds no way

To escape from the darkness

Sometimes she feels

She is nearing the end

Yes, there are days

When she feels she is on cloud nine

But, those are very few

Most of the days are

Enveloped in gloomy thoughts
