Day-30
NaPoWriMo-2026
Prompt: In his poem, “Angels,” Russell Edson speaks of these spiritual warrior-messenger-guardians as if they were a type of endangered animal. Brief as it is, the poem is disorienting in its use of flattened diction, odd similes, and elliptical statements. Today, try writing your own poem that discusses a real or mythical being or profession (demons, firefighters, demonic firefighters) with the same sort of musing yet dispassionate tone.
It stinks under the armpits
sweat reeking nemesis
talcum powder stuck in between.
It oozes like a stenched
salt pans, laden with powdered patches
How can something named so beautifully
be foul and so smelly...
Who said it is a month of
blooming flowers, rejuvenating butterflies, and an energizing spirit?
The goddess after whom it is named
..........................................failed to carry out her duties faithfully...
Aah! Need to drown out the sorrow with joy...
a cold drink? Maybe a chilled beer? An ice-cream?
The disaster at the other end of the world
........has blackened the air... 40 degrees Celsius!!!
The air-conditioners are adding fuel.
Constantly, whirring, growling, spewing, silent killer...
Carbon-monocide?
There is no other way, hoping
laughing, rather than dying
drowning in grief
frothing in the damned heat.
April... a killer month...fooled everybody.
