The Sunday Muse
My brother,
Why is that I suffer and you win?
I was born way before you,
I roamed and lived happily for thousand years
My carefree life became a burden
The day you evolved through the ribs
Your hunger to possess
Broke our mother layer by layer
You emptied her womb
Leaving it dry and desperate
Why are you digging your own grave and mine?
What can stop you from these suicidal tendencies?
How much is enough to fulfill your greed?
Can you stop a minute, think and act wise?
We belong to the same mother
Whereas, I struggle to survive in the wild
You breathe artificial air in your air-conditioned hole
The Damocles sword is hanging, my brother!
The day is not far when you will face the same fate as mine...

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading of your comparison of life's differing progression. Generally the first makes a path for the younger ones. This holds true for inventions, discoveries, skills, growing, and other endeavors.
We need not "invent the wheel" over again. Some people skip some steps but for each of us at the end is at a hole in the ground. Our paths are smoother when we share and help with other.

So well said, Jim. Kindness is the mantra to survive and to maintain peace. Thank you for your lovely comment :)
DeleteThe hunger in this is palpable and it's an interesting illustration of greed as a perversion of survival.
ReplyDeleteYes, we are digging our grave knowingly. Thank you, Chrissa :)

ReplyDeleteThere is so much to say but helplessness comes in the forefront. One is not in a position to do anything. Thank you Carrie, for the constant encouragement. :)

Delete"suicidal tendencies" is an excellent way to put it. Your conclusion is prophetic and truly chilling. Excellent poem, a call for common sense!
ReplyDeleteIf one is destroying one's nest intentionally then it is definitely a cause to worry. We are blessed with the best brains but not in a position to change the course of time. Thank you Lisa for the read :)
DeleteWe are born with the ability to elevate and protect, but instead we define life by how much we possess without a thought to the devastation we cause in the process.
ReplyDeleteYou framed my thoughts so beautifully, Susie. Thank you :)
DeleteWise wolf. He knows we will not be spared.
