Fences

 Day-23 NaPoWriMo-2023

Prompt: Write a poem that has multiple numbered sections. Set the poem in a specific place that you used to spend a lot of time in, but don't spend anymore.

1

He stopped at the gate

Greeted and smiled

Chatting one for dozen

Reminiscing the old days.

2

The huge mango tree

On the outskirts of the village

Where the kids gathered

Waiting for the winds of May.

3

The big cashew tree

Behind her  house

Flowered with colorful fruits

The fragrance went astray.

4.

The  friendly neighbour

Shouted, " Are you at home"?

As the sun waved goodbye

Dropped in with a bunch of jasmine flowers.

5

The kind septuagenarian

Sold clams to stay alive

Her offsprings are in EU

She died watching at the gate.

6

The tulsi  plant blushed

Flowered and incensed  fervently

As the names of gods chanted

By a freshly bathed devotee.

7

The child in her

Let the nostalgia

Envelope her heart

And enjoy the bygone past.

8

The open-play area

Has become smaller

The balls do not go beyond the walls

The neighbor's fence is too tall.

9

He and She

Sighed  melancholy

Recalling all that is

Buried in the concrete jungle.

  1. I enjoyed the gentle stroll and chat in this poem, and would love to have a huge mango tree on the outskirts of our village, one of my favourite fruits but alas, they don’t grow in our climate. Thank you for the image of a fragrant cashew tree. There is a hint of sadness in the stanza about the open-play area, which is reflected in the melancholy of the final stanza.
