Precipice

The Sunday Muse: #178

Softly thudding hours
move on tight wires
each hour a painful step
holding life at a standstill

 fear grips
at every waking moment
will there be a tomorrow
or  silent hands in flight

the precipice
in sight and thoughts
resonates silently
to be or not to be

how easy it would be
to take the leap
and end this restlessness
in one silent moment of faith.

  1. Don't do it, mister! He does look a picture of either exhaustion or misery though, doesn't he?

  5. I find it interesting--the "moment of faith" twists the precipice for me into commitment to something that might not be destruction but will be change.

    1. You got it right, Chrissa. Human mind is so complex that any decision can change the course of life.

  6. It’s sad that some come so close to the precipice and actually jump but their leap of faith is in their self destruction.
You captured the agony of this decision making with your words.

  7. You have mind-melded and looked into the soul of this dejected young man. I like your use of enjambment and how you home in on his stream of consciousness. I can see this as connected to life in general or to the pandemic and probably both.

    1. Lisa, I really liked your analysis. I also learned that this running thoughts of mine has a poetic form...enjambment! A first time for me. Thank you very much for the new word. This pandemic has been a real teacher and has added many angles to the thought process.
