Ode to a Keyboard

NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-9

Prompt: To write an ode celebrating an everyday object.

To you I owe

Too many things...

So many said and unsaid

Feelings, emotions

Only take wings

When I caress you

Feel you and pour

My heart out.

You bring out the best in me

A click here

And a click there

Opens a new world

Of refined thoughts

I know, you are a machine

But, imagining life without you

Is out of the question

You tempt me

Every single moment

Dark and slick, you are

A little light of a beacon.

I traverse across

Many parallel universes

Just sitting in front of you

Meeting people

Sharing joy and grief

Knowing new things

Communicating, learning

And celebrating life.

See, how you made me

A slave of yours,

Forever.

Silenced Words!

 NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-8

Prompt: Write a poem that centers around an encounter of a relationship between two people who shouldn't have really ever met

A time. when life
Played tricks
Pushing two people
Together in an unknown maze
Like fate melting on twisted dreams.

So much pain surfaced
In the unwanted bonds
Sharpened voices echoed
And silenced the bitterness.

And then nirvana...
When words spoke
And took on a journey
Of happiness, love, and bliss.

Opened new avenues
Where the thoughts
Found an anchor
And released a trapped soul
From the domineering shadow
Forever...

Wish You Were Here!

NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-7

Prompt: To write a poem titled" Wish You Were Here" that takes inspiration from the idea of a postcard.

Dear S

Landed in Hyderabad today morning.
Now, standing in front of the beautiful edifice
Remembering you and I strolling in the bylanes
Buying glittering lac bangles and organic perfumes.

I miss us shopping through the lanes
Soaking in the fragrance of medieval charm
The wafting of biryanis and kebabs
And the chanting of spice vendors.

Evening, I am going to visit
Our most favorite joints
How time passed by as we jostled through the crowd
Window shopping at Sultan and Koti bazaars.

I wish you were here,
Sharing the same experience and making more memories.

Lots of love

Yours S

Bad Luck

NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-6

Prompt: To write a poem rooted in "weird wisdom". In the Indian Subcontinent, we have the saying that leaving a "chappal" or "shoes"  upside-down will bring some form of bad luck.

"No upside-down chappals in my house"
My grandmother's voice resonated in the corridors
Cousins  of every size and height
Scrambled to check the arrangement of their chappals.

There was always a curiosity among the kids
Why should we not keep the chappal upside-down?
What does it signify?
The confused minds wondered at the weird taboo.

Grandmother explained patiently
"An inverted shoe or slipper brings bad luck.
No work gets done if we start the day on the wrong foot."
Still, the young minds couldn't get the logic behind it.

Even now,  when she is in another world
We cannot resist arranging an upside-down slipper
Some things never change, even in the millennium
Time stands still when memories flood the heart.

Happiness!
Tiny hands make
Colourful bouquet
A huge smile lights up.

Happiness!
Two pairs of eager eyes
Wagging tails with joy
Mother walks in.

Happiness!
An imp of  a baby squirrel
Runs up and down the tree
A squealing sound follows.

The Vanishing Golden Carpet

NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-4

Prompt: To write a poem in which you take a title or some language/ideas from The Strangest Things in the World .

                                                          Pic credit: Sunita Prasad

The concrete jungles
Have gobbled up the plains
Killing the carpet of verdant hues.

Many years ago
When modernity slept
In the wings of developed nations
Tiny patches of life existed and bloomed
In every length and breadth of the ground.

Population explosion, greedy land mafias
Have eaten acres and acres of blooming lands
With extensive chemical fumes hand in gloves.

The heart leaps with indescribable raptures
To see a profusion of these golden beauties
Once in a blue moon.

Chotu! The star-studded guest!

NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-3

Prompt: To write a surreal poem.

He sits on the platform. Bubbolous eyes larger than its oranged, star-sprinkled body. Hardly, a few inches in length and acts as if he owns the world. Little, tiny webbed feet tiptoe over the rice morsel searching for its prey. The flies are unaware of the predator, who lurks, in the shadows of the kitchen sink. Tiny beings are gobbled up with a smacking tongue in between. The orange shell of the body bloats with prey and the predator gloats over its conquest. A cajoled "Good morning Chotu"  is acknowledged with a rotation of the black orbs bigger than its head. A Google search makes me feel like a minuscule drop in the ocean in the period of its existence. For millions of years, it walked on this earth. I am just a speck of grain in the order of chronology. Respect it deserves, the larger-than-life dwarf.

You are my love
My lifeline.
Every breath I take
Revolves around you
My heart beats in your arms.
I shiver with joy
When you hold me in your arms
The softness of your bosom
Heals every pain of mine.
My childhood flowered
In your flowing streams of love
My adolescence fluttered
In the waves of your loving gaze
You wooed and consoled
When my heart felt the restless beats.
My darling! You have soaked
Every ounce of my existence
In the gossamer embrace of acceptance.

Love Lost!

 NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-1

Prompt: A challenge to write without consulting the book- a poem that recounts the plot or some portion of the plot, of a novel that you remember having liked but that you haven't read in a long time.

There were too many barriers

Imposed by the social giants

Her heart was split in two

The desires ached in the pit.

The indecisive moment

To want all of him or nothing

She walked through the haze

Missing the odour of the milieu.

The metallic cacophony

Bellowing through the screen

Noises, sharp and distant

Couldn't stop her from her fate

She took the plunge into the smoky air

Crushing her broken heart into nothingness!

Friendship

Meeting an old friend after forty years. The heart felt as if it was on a roller coaster ride. So many memories washed across an ocean of time. Such a feeling of unbeatable joy flamed up the senses. Maybe this is how moments are framed on a spectrum of emotions. The teary pools enveloped us in a time machine.

I passed through many doors over decades to capture those little moments of joy we shared, when we didn't know what friendship was. We were just innocent kids who felt that life was incomplete without each other. The days passed on wings and time stood still in the tiny hands of mischief.

I mostly remember the summer days. Twenty-four hours were not enough to fill the itinerary of things to do. Climbing mango trees, picking up the ripe mangoes, eating them, messing up the clothes, getting spanked by mother for the handprints splashed on the clothes, playing hide and seek, gilli danda, and even marbles. Not to forget  the nearby hills to pluck the ripe cashew fruits and pick dropped cashew nuts which were not eaten but used as pawns while playing marbles. Going in search of wild berries like KANDA, BORAH, CHUNNA without any bother about the thorns strewn across the patches of dry leaves.... the list is endless. Then, there were the tempting waters of the village stream. Imagine the gang of young swimmers making a queue from the small bridge to take the plunge and splash with pure joy. Some would have their shorts on and others didn't even bother about them. The world belonged to them. The free-spirited souls. Childhood does not believe in the etiquette of the worldly wise. Nature is the only god.

If I go on writing about all those memories, I would not be able to fill it in a page. The plethora of anecdotes need a huge canvas to pour my feelings and nostalgia into a fitted space.

Chandamama

23 August 2023... India makes history on the moon!

No nation is small
No nation is big
Where dreams are concerned
We all go the extra miles
To find meaning and fulfill goals
A distant, unimaginable dream
Has become a reality
When a nation
Scarred by colonial clutches
Finally, made its own history!
With the message of peace and ahimsa
the triranga lands
on the bosom of the moon!
Jai Hind!
