The Vanishing Golden Carpet

NaPoWriMo-2024

Day-4

Prompt: To write a poem in which you take a title or some language/ideas from The Strangest Things in the World .

The concrete jungles
Have gobbled up the plains
Killing the carpet of verdant hues.

Many years ago
When modernity slept
In the wings of developed nations
Tiny patches of life existed and bloomed
In every length and breadth of the ground.

Population explosion, greedy land mafias
Have eaten acres and acres of blooming lands
With extensive chemical fumes hand in gloves.

The heart leaps with indescribable raptures
To see a profusion of these golden beauties
Once in a blue moon.

  1. I mourn with you the vanishing golden carpet paved over in the name of progress. It seems we're seeing that almost everywhere with no signs of abating.
