Flashes of Past

Day-4

NaPoWriMo-2025

A sketch, a gift, frozen in time

Filled with memories

Memories of the past

Entwined with colonial hues

Hangs on my bedroom wall.

I remember the shades.

The shades of a life lived

A huge verandah,

Laden with colorful blooms.

Arches and balconies

Filled with fragrant air.

Elders,

Gossiping about everything

There was a unity

A unity of secular trust

Neighbours were friends

And no fences to mend.

I miss that camaraderie.

That laid-back time zone

People loved, cared, and

Dared to be different.

Now, the birds flew away

The walls echo with emptiness

The  kin are busy amassing gains

The elders are left brooding

Worrying about numbered days.

It is not just a painting

It is a sketch of life

Woven in shades of belief

I cherish it,

For all the reminiscences of happy times.
