Prompt: Poem about a specific place

Those arches and the colored lamps
Still, have the power to bring childhood
On a whiff of breath.

This abode holds my heart and soul
Every wall is a footprint, memories with loved ones
Echoes in the corners. 

I visualize images-

My aaji in the kitchen, urging the fire with a pipe
The aroma of her love, in the dishes she serves
My ajoba on a rocking chair, puffing on his bidis.

In the expanse of the verandah a line of colorful festoons
One wall colored with pictures, signs of Nag Panchami, Diwali
And Ganesh Chaturthi.

My dear uncle, his hands covered with clay
Making god bow to his will, shaping the contours
To celebrate the festive seasons.

The courtyard, a playfield and a battlefield with
Cousins fighting and making up and playing pranks
Memories! Just breathe.

And now in the evening of life
I sigh with a lingering ache
Carrying that house and memories
Deep, in my heart.
