The Wild Heart

 Day-30 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a Cento. This is a poem that is made up of lines taken from other poems.

                                                                           pic;sunita

What is this drink, but the April sun,

Smelling of tempestuous winds on the skin.

This is noon for strangers who part the window drapes,

Hunger in their eyes and a burning longing in their hearts.

But, they only wander, tripping idly over puddles of desire,

The walls shield the longing of their desperate fires.

From a silence, somewhere deep within,

A seductive fragrance embraces the hot humid evening.

The sights and smells and sounds shall thrive and go on,

While the summer breaks into a dance of its own.

I love the poems by Kamala Das. I have taken a few lines from some of her poems.
"What is this drink, but the April sun", Summer in Calcutta
"This is noon for strangers who part the window drapes to peer in". Hot Noon in Malabar
"But, they only wander, tripping idly over puddles of desire', The Freaks
"
From a silence, somewhere deep within", Words
"The sights and smells and sounds shall thrive and go on". Forest Fire

Inheritance

 Day-29 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: to write a poem in which you muse on the gifts you received at birth — whether they are actual presents, like a teddy bear, or talents – like a good singing voice – or circumstances – like a kind older brother, as well as a “curse” you’ve lived with.

                                                                       pic:sunita

Growing up under your shadow

You were her hero, the strong banyan tree.

She eagerly waited for the birthday gifts

The little fingers would hold the bounty

Smelling the woodiness with pleasure

Feeling the joy rushing in the veins

She would bury herself in

The realms of the magical world.

Time moved on timeless horses

That little girl turned into a

Voracious reader, her youth found

Comfort between the parchment of words.

When destiny played hide and seek,

Your gifts have been her

Constant companions

When your absence

Eroded her soul.

In Search of Faith

 Day-27 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a "duplex" a form of a sonnet.

                                                         hometown: image from a friend.

The blood flows like a timeless maverick

With exotic, untamed thoughts and words.

Sometimes the thoughts are stuck

While rummaging through the layers.

The broken  layers have turned frosty

Pain comes like a marauder dangling on a heartbeat.

Heartbeats are signs of living

When a mysterious tomorrow marches on a labyrinth.

Marching in and out of hospitals

Why not make the best when there is still a speck of hope.

They say the world survives on hope

I do believe there is a lot more to do.

There are more dreams to conquer

When the blood flows like a timeless maverick.

The Forecast

 Day-26 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem in an epic simile.

                                                                        pic:sunita

The seasons are like making love

on wild meadows of erotic earth

a melting pot in the daylight and

flashes of thunder and lightening

in the twilight as an when the earth

starts fuming the fires like a dragon.

In the daybreak

the bees  prance around the blooms

sucking the nectar as if their life

hangs on a time machine.

The squirrels get busy

shuttling from one tree to another

wondering if the earth is ever

going to get cooler or hotter

or both in the blazing weather.

Very difficult to tell

whether it is spring or summer

while the queen of spring

like a Houdini, sings

behind the curtain of greens.

The Village Goddess

 Day-25 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write about a vision or a dream depicting a woman.

                                                                            pic:sunita

She walks in my dreams

With the charm of a faraway land

Where she lived life

Within the arms of nature

Draping her saree

In the traditional way

She walks to the spring

Carrying  pots of clay

As if going on a pilgrimage, in her 70s.

Climbing that rocky terrain

A synchronized balance on a hip and head.

Always barefooted.

Her betel-nut pouch firmly

Tucked in the folds of her sari

Those steep steps, eroded with time.

Marked with her footprints.

For half a century the rocky path kissed her feet.

The Wild Flower

 Day-24 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem in which you describe  something with a hard-boiled simile.

                                                                      pic;sneha

The long tresses swirled like waves

As she walked through the glade

Her curves were like a stream on a move

A painting of perfection

A happy fairy unaware of the blazing stare

He watched from afar

She was fragile, beautiful, and vulnerable

It made him defenseless,

He was scared of his own feeling. What if he touches her

And she breaks into pieces?

He was a secret admirer. A voyager, a believer.

She was like water in a vase, clear, crystalline

So clear was her infinite beauty

It reflected as she moved through the meadows

Like a free bird, boundless, serenading the breeze

With her wanderlust. He was just a thirsty traveler.

He could only love from a distance.

Debris of Memories

 The Sunday Muse #207

A man listening to a gramophone in what’s left of his bombed-out bedroom in Aleppo,
                                                                                             Syria.  Photography by Joseph Eid

The music resonates

Resonates the happy days

Days of laughter and blissful times

Times now shattered

Shattered between acrid smell and smoked debris

Debris stirs silence

        Silence, that echoes the gunfire

Gunfire, that silenced the smiles

Smiles of dear ones

Ones who were part of life

Life sacrificed mindlessly

Mindlessly, in the hands of greed

Greed has raised its demonic head

Head, that has completely forgotten

Forgotten, that we are all humans

Humans will all perish

Perish, in our own space and time

Time cannot erase

Erase the memories

 Memories that resonates

Resonates the melodies

Melodies of happier times.

Whispers

 Day-23 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem in the style of Kay Ryan, whose poems tend to be short and snappy.

                                                                     pic:sneha

She hears

these voices. Voices

broken into parts.

deep sounds,

loud, mellowed,

whispered.

She is trying

to understand

this stillness

that is lurking

within her surrounding.

Or is it her mind

which is playing games?

This silence, tangible

nerve-wracking,

is eroding her

sense of belonging.

Stayin Alive

 Day-22 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem that uses repetition. You can repeat a sound, a word, a phrase, or an image. Or any combination of things.

                                                                    pic:sunita

La la la la la….

Flying in the wind

I sing like a nightingale

I embrace the sunny rhymes.

With dreams in my eyes.

La la la la la….

Kissed by the glittering star

Glowing in a bridal attire

The fragrant flowers,

Join me in my stride.

La la la la la…

Positive energy reigns

Running through the veins

Wild with the dancing heartbeats

“Stayin Alive ‘with the Bee Gees.

La la la la la…

Sanguine thoughts

Dance through my healing pen,

Alive and hopeful

I bow to the new dawn.

Fleeting Moments

 Day-21 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem where you first recall someone you knew closely but are no longer in touch with, then a job you used to do but no longer do, and then a piece of art you saw once and that has stuck with you over time. Finally, close the poem with an unanswerable question.

The unexpected meeting
Turned out to be something
Beautiful and long-lasting.
Filling the lonely hours
With your presence,
Every moment was precious.
The hours changed
Into months and months into years,
We were inseparable.
And then, one fine day
You left in the midway
Without a word or a second chance.
The workplace wore
A desolate look
The work which I loved, felt
Like an incomplete destiny
The geography of things, and
emotions became history.
The beautiful painting,
That hanged in your office
Remained an aching memory.
It shows up in my dreams
The burst of colors
The regaled roses
The manicured lawns
The replenishing  fountains,
Which you created with your hands,
Breaks my already broken heart
Into many more fragments.
I always wonder,
Why do we fall prey to our fate?

Spiced up!

 Day-20 NaPoWriMo-2022

The moment

I look at you

The body goes through a trance

The goosebumps

Stand testimony to my needs

You have been my crush for too long

How I  long for you!

   Your soft crusty touch

Takes me on a journey

Of wants and desires

You spice up my life

With deep and passionate fires

Every bit of you melts on my tongue.

My Choices

 Day-19 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem that starts with a command.

Look! Leave me alone!

Don't preach to me about finding happiness,

It is just a reflection of a mirage;

Let my thoughts fill my space, before,

The last frontiers befall.

Don't even bother to tell me to be sensible,

My desperate attempt at tranquility

Is a loss of faith and belief;

It has created unseen barriers.

Stay away! Let me be in peace.

My silent world is filled with broken promises

I will find comfort, in the arms of inked

Words, incomplete thoughts, and blank verses.

 Day-18 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem that provides five answers to the same question.

                                                                     my village

I

The old-world charm needed a recall,

There was restlessness, lodged deep in the soul.

II

Some memories wanted to find closure,

The yearning was too strong to ignore.

III

Missed the sunset, the palms, and the alluring horizon,

Many half-truths and half-lies, still rested in the grave. hidden.

IV

The annihilation of the ancient grudges is one of the reasons,

The heart wanted to get purged and refreshed in a new season.

V

One needs to visit the place of a traumatic past,

Otherwise one carries the burden till it last.

Jasmine

The Sunday Muse - Word Garden Word List #19

                                                                         pic:sunita

A silent moonlight
Kisses through the grills
There has been lots of humming
During the daylight.

The twinkling glow flies
Compete with your pristine whites
The air has felt the heat of desires
Fragrant pearls have lit the fires.

The evening turns tender
As a scented garland
Cascade through the tresses
Of a blushing lover.

How tempting you are
A petite seductress!

 Day-17 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To think about dogs you have known, seen, or heard about, and then use them as a springboard into wherever they take you.

                                                                              Maxi

I fell in love with you
The moment I held you in my arms
You spoke a language
With your limpid honey eyes.

You filled every hour with mischief
To have you following my every step
Toddling around, biting on things
A ferocious bonding with my ankles.

As you grew from a toddler to a teething wolf
With a taste for shoes, socks, and stretchy things
I managed to find you happy behind the flowery bushes
We shared moments of such joy my little waif.

How fast you grew from a toddler to a beautiful lass
With a shiny honey coat and twinkling eyes
There was no dearth of admirers
All of them lined up at the gates.

You were my princess
We protected you and loved you more
The day when death visited the master
You cried sitting at his feet begging God for his life.
How my heart surged that day
To see your silent prayers.

As time raced and days grew long
We crossed miles
In the lap of  life's mercy
You were by my side when fate crossed my path
Comforting me with your mute loyalty.

And then that day came
When time stood still
You wanted me to hold you
To ease the pain which eroded your body
Your eyes full of love asked for a remedy
How could my darling, I let you go!

It was a gloomy Sunday
When the rains dissolved in my tears
You lying in my arms
Looking at me with suffering
I made peace with myself
With a heavy heart, I bade you goodbye.

I know I couldn't stop you
Leaving me with an ache
Your last breath drowned in my sigh
Taking a piece of my heart
To the meadows of paradise.

Day-16 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a  Curtal Sonnet. It consists of 11 lines with a rhyme scheme of abcabc dbcdc. The 11th line is short.

Gloomy, greedy shadows move fast,

Turning bloodlines into water.

The loved ones wear the face of foes.

Nurtured love and care cannot last,

The trees, choke in a new shelter,

The branches, breathe, in grilled shadows.

The trees grew, unreachably tall,

They have seen, seasons together,

Within the nests, pretension flows,

Life moves on a seasonal wheel

 an autumn pose...

 Day-15 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem about something you absolutely have no interest in.

                                                 pic source: Internet

A look in the mirror

Smiles back in confidence

It doesn't need

Loads of cake to hide the wrinkles

Everyday, the voices echo

Do this, do that

Apply this, apply that

What is wrong in

Having a dark skin

With a few blemishes thrown in?

Age is not a burden

No cosmetics can help

To erase the experiences

Which are gracefully

Embossed on the skin.

Chasing Whiskers

 Day-14 NaPoWriMo-2022

Prompt: To write a poem that takes the form of the opening scene of the movie of your life.

                                                              Ginu: my happiness index

10pm!
The camera zooms in
The scene is not clear
There is noise in the bushes
The main protagonist
Is invisible in the semi-darkness
Some squeaking sound echoes
Lots of stunts and action
The eye of the lens
Not in a position to catch
Most of it
The tall breadfruit tree
Stands testimony
To the action scenes
The branches add
Special effects
To enhance and build the suspense
Suddenly, a crescendo, some shuffling
A low bark, and then silence
In a few minutes
The main  character
Walks out from the bushes
Wagging and swagging
And drops her
Victory trophy at the feet.
