Debris of Memories

 The Sunday Muse #207

A man listening to a gramophone in what’s left of his bombed-out bedroom in Aleppo,
                                                                                             Syria.  Photography by Joseph Eid

The music resonates

Resonates the happy days

Days of laughter and blissful times

Times now shattered

Shattered between acrid smell and smoked debris

Debris stirs silence

        Silence, that echoes the gunfire

Gunfire, that silenced the smiles

Smiles of dear ones

Ones who were part of life

Life sacrificed mindlessly

Mindlessly, in the hands of greed

Greed has raised its demonic head

Head, that has completely forgotten

Forgotten, that we are all humans

Humans will all perish

Perish, in our own space and time

Time cannot erase

Erase the memories

 Memories that resonates

Resonates the melodies

Melodies of happier times.

  1. I have seen this form before and it is a powerful one for this image. So much loss and destruction in this world, and your poignant poem stirs those thoughts and feelings beautifully Sunita.

    1. Yes, the merciless dance of killing across the world is really heartbreaking. Thank you, Carrie for an amazing prompt. Btw the poetic form is called LOOP.

  2. This image really spoke to me too. I am right there with you in the devastation of what is happening - each person just a human being - how on earth do we do this to each other?

  7. Luv that you chose this wrap around style for emphasis. It works so well. The caution, the helplessness, the grief, the destiny, all of which is crafted so brilliantly.
Have a blessed Sunday Sunita. Thanks for dropping by my blog today

    Much💛love

  8. Good writing on the bad actor, terrible bad. He and the carnage sicken me. The russian president was shown on TV crossing himself for Eastern or russian Orthodox Easter. His Bible is like others? Those books have the ten commandments, the 5th is "Thou shall not kill." Besides being a ruthless killer and a mad man, he now has been shown to be a hypocrite.

    1. A true Christian won't commit such atrocities. But greed is another thing.
