Prompt: Denied (Free Verse)
She struggles everyday
From morning till evening
It is a round of denials
Don't do this
Don't do that
You are born to be a dormant.
You shouldn't laugh loud
You shouldn't expose yourself
So many restrictions
So many hurdles
Life is just a quagmire
Instilled with so many barriers.
There is nobody around
To listen to her woes
An emptiness erodes her soul
Whenever she finds
Her life is without any goals.
Her feelings are shrouded
Her desires are smothered
She suffocates in the fold of traditions
As she looks at the sky
And wishes for once to utter the word "NO".
It is time to fight back
It is time to reject
The doomed existence
She will no more be denied
Her rights, for being a woman
She will fight. to voice her FREEDOM.

ReplyDeleteIt's a lifelong fight, and, honestly, I realized the need for it when I was a child. When I first heard the term "penis envy," it really enraged me because I didn't want a penis, I wanted the same opportunities and respect that the boys got.

ReplyDeleteThank you Lili..I didn't have to struggle much while penning this. The thoughts just flowed instantly. The build up anger surfaced in words. :) The wheels of change are in action.
