A Cycle of Madness

Day-17 OctPoWriMo-2018
Prompt: Madness Reigns (Free Verse)

Image: Sneha

We are not perfect

Each one carries a mask to enact

Many mirrored images to reflect

Bracing each day

We find a role to play

Sometimes you act sensibly

Sometimes there is a mad frenzy

Time somersault in tenses

The embossed wrinkles

Wear a cloak of fragile egos

Making us realize

Life an ephemeral stranger

Carrying along with it

Too many travelers

To the mad mad world of emptiness.

A half-moon of sanity

Reins in a full moon of insanity

An insane desire to be different

An insane thirst to take the road less taken

There is a stream of madness

Running through the blood

Madness in solitude

Madness to fight against the odds

Madness to take wings

Madness in the throbbing  blues

Nothing can rein this craziness

There is only you and your crazy thoughts

While the entire world masquerade

You believe in being sane and insane

All at the same time.

  1. I liked the way you've flipped the description of sanity and insanity by comparing them with half moon and full moon. The penultimate line does tell it all indeed

    1. Madness is like the phases of moon. Or even high and low tides. Thank you for the appreciation :)

  2. I really, really love the phrase'A half-moon of sanity // Reins in a full moon of insanity.' It's a lovely piece, Sunita, and good luck for the festival!
